Jacque's Knitting Place - Side Seam Socks

Knit side seam sock green 9ply using no 9 needles

I found several old old balls of Patons Beehive 3ply fingering in 1 ounce (28.35 grams) balls. The instructions say to remove band and knit from the outside. It doesn't explain why.
The wool is a forest green and the wool is "patonised" - shrink resistant, I think.

It took me four attempts to finally make a pair of these socks to my satisfaction!

Materials

I used three strands of 3ply green wool
Needles Number 9.

Tension

The gauge doesn't matter.

First sock

Heel is on the left side of the foot when right side of work is facing

Cuff

Cast on 56 stitches

Leg

Rib k2, p2 rib for 45 rows

Heel

Work in stocking stitch (knit one row, purl one row. It's also called "plain fabric" or "stockinette".)

Work 28 stitches for 20 rows starting with a purl row.

Now pick up 14 stitches up the other side of the heel (37 stitches) and purl across remaining 27 stitches (64 stitches)
